During my prayer time, I came across the scripture Colossians 4:1. It spoke volumes to me. This is what I saw as I read this scripture. “Masters (employers) give your bondservants (employees) what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master (God) in heaven.”
When you think about it, for every employee that God sends to us (employers), it becomes our responsibility to provide a good/safe work environment and the best possible benefits for them and their families. A content employee will work hard to help his/her company to succeed (make money). This will enable payroll to be made. If payroll is not made, then our employees will not have anything in which to take care of their families. When a person chooses to work for a company, they place great TRUST in that company.
That is why it is so important that we, as employers, are just and fair with our employees. It is so easy to cut corners, at the expense of our employees, and just do the minimum that the law requires. However, is that really JUST? Health insurance is a huge expense for any business. Nonetheless, is to neglect to provide or to help our employees with health insurance really FAIR?
I do not claim to know the right answers to these questions and others. The circumstances of every business and/or employee is different. However, I do know that as a Christian business owner, we should at least ponder these questions as we strive to do business according to Biblical principles. Only He can guide us to the correct answers for our businesses.
